In this footage, Lieutenant Colonel Md. Redwanul Islam, serial number BA 6047 of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), is seen taking targeted shots using an AK-47 assault rifle. Simultaneously, members of the Bangladesh Police are using Chinese Type 56 SKS rifles to aim and shoot at unarmed civilians.
The use of such lethal weapons to disperse a civilian crowd is a clear violation of the Geneva Conventions; lethal force against unarmed civilians is explicitly prohibited and is classified as a grave breach of international humanitarian law. Bangladesh is a signatory to these conventions. This constitutes a war crime.
