Golam Nafiz, 17 years old, was a student of the SSC 2024 batch at Banani School and College. He had been an active student protester from the beginning of this movement.

On August 4th near Farmgate, Nafiz with a Bangladesh flag tied around his head, was shot by police during demonstrations. Nuru, a rickshaw puller, came to Nafiz’s aid and attempted to transport the injured youth to a hospital on his rickshaw. However, their journey was reportedly impeded by police. Despite Nuru’s efforts, Nafiz succumbed to his gunshot wounds before reaching medical care.

The poignant image of Nuru carrying the wounded Nafiz on his rickshaw became widely circulated, appearing in several newspapers the following day. The photograph shows Nafiz lying in the footwell of the rickshaw, his head and feet hanging over the sides, with the national flag still tied around his head.
This tragic incident occurred amidst ongoing protests, highlighting the tensions between demonstrators and law enforcement. The image captured a moment of human compassion in crisis and became a symbol of the broader conflict unfolding on the streets of Dhaka.
